Bubbly Brunch @ Neroteca, Changkat Bukit Bintang

Put ‘Neroteca’ and ‘free flow bubbly’ into the same sentence and the crowds are sure to come running. Already known for its porky Italian preeminence and a competent collection of Italian wines it’s hard to imagine this nook could do any better. With the advent of Sunday buffet lunches though, this place is surely set to become the preferred purlieu of KL residing bon vivants. For 118RM++ you eat all you want with bottomless glasses of prosecco, red and white wines. The choices for this special include: the easy drinking Nero d’Avola, a smooth red with hints of plum and pepper, paired aptly with pork and garlicky pastas; Santa Carolina Chardonnay, a buttery white with a bite of citrus at the end teaming well with creamy sauces and suckling pig; and Val d’Oca Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore, a light and vibrantly fresh sparkling, facilely appreciated all afternoon long. A couple of beverages would quickly see your money recouped but we haven’t even started on the food yet.

Bread. Neroteca does it commendably. Baked onsite twice daily customers are treated to hot baskets of rustic and focaccia varieties adorned with roasted garlic. Personally I could stop there and be truly content. A glass of Nero d’Avola, crusty rustic bread and accompanied by friends in intimate surroundings is my interpretation of a splendid afternoon. But, of course, there’s more. Cheese! No less than  nine delightful Italian cheeses grace the table – gorgonzola, taleggio, gradana padano, buffalo mozzarella, fontina, asiago, provolone, fontal and smoked scarmoza. Cold cuts too! Also at least nine varieties – parma ham, honey ham, speck, coppa, mortadella, calabra piccante, napoli piccante, contadino and salami Milano. I know from this point on it is just getting ridiculous but guests are further treated to antipasto (some of the most ambrosial in town I believe due to exceptional extra virgin olive oil), simple salads, mixed pastas, risottos, suckling pig and desserts. Particular items on show are changed weekly so boredom for returning customers is not an option. Neroteca’s bubbly lunch runs Sundays from noon until 3pm. Be sure to make a reservation as this drool provoking offer will not remain secret for much longer.
