Father’s Day Pork Ribs Special

Here’s just the thing to tickle the taste buds of all pork lovers and to say thank you to good old dad at the same time. Chicago Rib House is hosting a month-long Feast on Ribs promotion to celebrate Father’s Day. You will enjoy two full racks of ribs, along with the potato dish of your choice and one more side dish. Potatoes come as wedges, beer-battered fries or mashed. The restaurant has created three new side dishes to highlight US potatoes. There’s Macho Potatoes (special baked), Happy Spuds (potato salad) and Brave Potatoes, which are stewed with herbs and tomato sauce then smashed for a chunky texture. In addition you can choose corn-on-the-cob, coleslaw, rice or fresh vegetables.

CRH offers a choice of 5 tasty sauces for the ribs. The Original BBQ Sauce is smoky and tomato-based; in fact all the sauces include tomatoes with the exception of my favourite, Flaming Kansas City. It’s sweet, sour and spicy with plenty of back pepper for heat and vinegar adding a kick. The Honey Garlic Sauce is tangy and sweet, infused with plenty of garlic, while the Caramelized Plum Sauce is fruitier, with resinous rosemary rounding out the flavour. The final choice is Bourbon Sauce, which is spicy with a hint of whisky overlaid with bourbon aromas – I found it rather unique.

The restaurant uses only premium baby back ribs, soft, tender and juicy; I was impressed by how lean and meaty they were. I think they would have benefitted from slightly longer on the grill to develop a smokier flavour and allow the sauce to penetrate the meat, but there was a huge crowd when I was there, so it was probably a choice between quality and quantity.

To wet your whistle there’s a good selection of hot drinks and mocktails. Also, CRH offers no less than 15 different Mojitos. These will work well for you if you like a sweet drink. Ladies, all day Wednesday you can buy one and get one free! There’s also a beer promotion – for every two glasses of Carlsberg purchased you’ll get a free one.

When you eat at CRH during the Feast on Ribs promotion you will have the opportunity to participate in the “Vote for Your Favourite Sauce” lucky draw. The top prize is one year’s free supply of pork ribs and the first runner up will receive free ribs for six months.

This special promotion will run from June 6 to July 6, 2014, and the rib special is priced at RM79.90. Please note that there’s a second outlet at Gurney Plaza in Penang and both restaurants are open from 11am to 11pm.
