Nichole Ong
Nichole Ong, contributing writer at The Yum List, shares a little about her background, food and travel preferences and gives some insight into her role.
What’s your role at The Yum List?
I am a writer at The Yum List.
When you’re not Yum Listing…
I was at school but have recently graduated and am waiting to go to university. In the meantime, I am now able to pick up more of my interests, such as reading.
What languages do you speak? What countries have you lived in? Where did you grow up?
I was born in Sydney, Australia and moved here when I was young. I speak English (as you can gather), a little bit of Mandarin, and I took Spanish in high school.
What is your food and beverage preferences/ preferred style of dining?
I love a nice, cosy cafe atmosphere. I am open to just about any cuisine and always eager to try something new. Still, I love satiating my sweet tooth with desserts and am a fanatic for bubble tea.
Go-to drink?
Bubble tea, any flavour (the more inventive, the better).
What is comfort food for you?
Comfort food is simple and hearty – something you can dig into. My favourite comfort foods are roast potatoes, noodle soup, and beef stew.
What do you look for in a menu?
I like a good variety of food and drinks, but not too much that the restaurant’s identity becomes muddled. I always appreciate a mixture of cuisine classics with other more inventive dish options.
Something people might not know about you…
I’m left-handed, and when people notice, they are always shocked they did not pick up on it before.
Something unexpected you discovered with The Yum List…
I discovered how wide the creative scope for food and drinks can be! With the Yum List, I’ve tried things like strawberry-flavoured coffee and sushi-taco hybrids that have surprised and delighted me, and I can’t wait to try more.
