Three young wine lovers have set out to make wine culture accessible to Kuala Lumpur twenty and thirty-somethings with their new wine bar, Galerie Du Vin at Glomac, Damansara. Their relaxed vineyard atmosphere is warm and welcoming, feeling more like a friend’s living room than a restaurant. Slate colored walls provide a perfect backdrop for the uplit vintage wine posters and exaggerated, high-backed leather chairs entice patrons to while away the hours over a bottle (or a few) of vino.
Sipping Area
Wine shelves glow nearby, inviting patrons to peruse the bottles before picking a bottle from the wide variety of offerings. Wine is currently only sold by the bottle and prices range in price from RM89 to RM385.
Interior
Upstairs is a private lounge area seating around 25, the perfect place for a cozy party or just to relax on the leather sofas while enjoying a libation with a few friends. Recordings of Bosa Nova and light jazz provide a relaxed and appropriate atmosphere to sip and savor.

Weekend wine pairing dinners are in the near future, and I hope they are as unique as a recent tasting Monica and I attended there. Instead of one wine with each course, we were served two. Who doesn’t love double the wine? With two different wines accompanying each course, it was fascinating to compare the same wine types from different wineries and their affects on the taste of the food.
Salad Maison
For example: we began with the Salad Maison, a fresh blend of rocket balanced with sweet orange dressing (which I would have loved to bottle and take home).
Montes Alpha Chardonnay (2011), a Chilean wine, as well as Rumours Chardonnay out of Australia accompanied the salad, both enhancing the flavors of the greens, but in completely different ways. The Montes brought out the herbal taste of the rocket, giving it a much more robust flavor, while Rumours was more acidic, enhancing the fruitiness of the salad dressing.
Chilean and Australian Chardonnays
Our tasting continued enjoyably in this way, we tasted six different wines with our four courses. The food was pleasant, though some dishes were better than others. The Pumpkin Soup was quite nice, with just the right thickness and a mild flavor. The Onion Soup with Red Wine and Brandy suffered by comparison, we found it too artificially sweet, but it had a good consistency and plenty of onions. Similarly, we also found the pepper sauce for the Grill Filet De Boeuf a bit syrupy and the cut of beef was not the best in quality, making it tougher than need be.

The best dish of the night by far was the Sea Bass in Butter Sauce, made so by the perfectly cooked and moist fish with crispy skin, surrounded by a thick cream sauce cooked to perfection with bits of real bacon and onion.

Penley Estate Rose
The dessert was a light and lovely Panna Cotta that was not too sweet and given a little kick by some raspberry jam swirled in. The dessert wines were my personal favorites, a Warburn Estate Gossips Sweet Lips Moscato (2012) with a light carbonation and a full-bodied Montes Late Harvest Gawurztraminer, which really added depth and sweetness to the Panna Cotta.

Galerie Du Vin is quite new and is still coming into its own but like a good wine, it is sure to get better with age and experience and we are looking forward to seeing them, and the wine culture in KL, bloom!
Reason to visit: Comfortable and cozy atmosphere to sip and savor a large selection of wines and relax with friends. Food prices are quite reasonable, ranging from RM16 to RM52.
Finally, a proper review for this place. Heard so much about it!
