Chef Zainurin bin Mohd Salleh has recently been appointed as Executive Sous Chef of Hotel Maya Kuala Lumpur. As part of this new position, he has brought his love for and experience with Japanese cuisine to the table at Still Waters. Along with a Saturday Japanese Buffet, a bunch of a la carte items have been introduced, and that’s what we’re here to try today.
Still Waters Restaurant Hotel Maya
Still Waters at Hotel Maya is a contemporary Asian restaurant dominated by a strong presence of Japanese and Cantonese cuisine. Boasting creative modern dishes, the team have over 50 recipes in this kaleidoscopic menu.
A La Carte Menu Still Waters
Three of chef Zainurin’s signature dishes are found with the Hotate Mentai Mayo, Dragon Roll and Beef Sirloin Steak. The first grabs our attention with its baked scallops topped with cheddar cheese and fish roe. It is warm and comforting and feels enticingly decadent. The next is not only tasty but also eye-catching with its inside-out sushi roll presentation resembling a dragon. Shrimp tempura and cucumber are rolled in nori and then again in rice. Thin slices of avocado layered on the crown mirror the scales of a dragon. Lastly, beef sirloin is a winner with the meat-eaters at our table, cooked just until tender and simply seasoned with salt, the natural flavours of the beef are at the forefront.
Set Meals
Starting from RM30, the team at Still Waters also offers some value-for-money set meals. All come with rice, salad and miso soup making a complete and filling meal. They’re ideal for a quick and nutritious lunch.
There is much for fish lovers to enjoy here in a variety of preparations; sashimi, fried or grilled in style. Salmon fans might try the Yaki Zakana Set featuring grilled salmon with salt or teriyaki sauce, or the Salmon Sashimi Set, with perfectly sliced pieces of fresh pink fish.
The Tempura Set, with prawns and vegetables, provides something for those who relish their food deep-fried, while the Sashimi Moriawase Set, should suit lovers of lighter cuisine with its assortment of raw fish.
Of course, there must be a sushi set, and the Sushi Yaki Zakana satisfies this desire with assorted fish slices with vinegar rice, grilled fish, and steamed egg.
Lastly, the Ramen Gyoza Set brings something hearty to the table with its warm bowl of ramen noodles in a rich broth sided with pan-fried dumplings.
